Our first, birthed at home :)

Its been a hectic 12 days so it has taken me this long to get in here and post!

I gave birth to our first son on 12th September at home in water as planned after a 8 hour active labour. It was such an amazing and empowering experience and I am so chuffed that we managed to stay home! It was hard work of course but so nice to be able to be in my home rather than a hospital. Our midwives were just amazing and I am forever grateful for their support.

Unfortunatly I had a massive blood loss and we transferred to hospital after the birth but we had said all along that if there was a medical need we would transfer and there certainly was. The midwife found a clot at the bottom of the pool that she said was the biggest she had ever seen and I fainted on the way out to the ambulance. Proof though that in an emergency home birth is still safe

We have had a tough first week as due to my blood loss I have had limited milk supply and DS lost a lot of weight and we ended up back in hospital a second time. Both DH and I have been amazed at the generosity and support from our local home birth community who have provided us with donated milk, meals, lactation cookies and lots of kind words.

Things are starting to look up and DS has started breast feeding again and put on a massive amount of weight - 580g in 5 days! I am still in awe that we made him and he is such an easy boy so far though ask me again when DH returns to work on Monday lol

Congratulations baba, that was the exact scenario of my 1st home birth with DD2 (who interestingly was born Sept 14th), yes it does make your grateful for amazing midwives who are very professional and transfer when necessary. Let me know if/when you need any information on reducing the chances of PPH if/when you have your next baby ... as you probably know I had two PPH's in a row but none in my 4th birth after lots of research and preparation

And yes the home birth community are amazing too!!

Enjoy the rest of your babymoon
