Depends upon the age and also the occasion.... Exceptions have to be made in some instances, to reward the kids sometimes and feel like they are being sneaky by staying out later

It depends on the level of maturity and trust you have in your child. It starts with the level of communication of the child, you MUST know if your child is smart enough not to get in trouble.

I think you have hit the nail on the head then. You need to understand the level of maturity and know if they are smart enough to make the correct decisions if in trouble. If they want to stay out too late regularly its likely they aren't smart enough.
