New Mom Spends $7,800 Trying to Lose the Baby Weight Like a Celebrity
New York Blogger Tries Celebrity Weight Loss Programs
A blogger for New York-based Jezebel.com took on the challenge of losing weight after her pregnancy in 2011. Awed by Jessica Simspson’s 60 pound weight loss five months after giving birth, 33-year-old Tracy Egan Morrissey spent $7,800 to see how fast she could regain her pre-baby body after gaining 80 pounds.
“You’re applauded for doing it fast or a failure if you don’t do it quickly,” said Tracie Egan Morrissey, a New York-based blogger for Jezebel.com.
“The whole time you’re pregnant, everyone thinks that your big belly is so nice and people are understanding,” she said. “And the minute you have that baby, you’re not pregnant anymore, you’re just fat in the eyes of everybody.”
ABC News reports, Jessica Simpson is the celebrity du jour in the post-bay weight-loss spotlight.
Simpson, 32, signed an endorsement deal to become the celebrity face of Weight Watchers, and since giving birth to daughter Maxwell Drew in May, she’s had her every appearance and photo scrutinized by tabloids analyzing her weight loss.
Morrissey started her quest with a personal trainer and a meal delivery service to the tune of $1,282.33 for one month.
She lost 15 pounds and turned to the more affordable Weight Watchers, which for around $350 did not bring the results she wanted.
“I had a lot of weight to lose when I had my baby,” said Morrissey, who gained 80 pounds during her pregnancy. “I figured I would do what they do, what I read celebrities do, to lose weight after having a baby or for a role.”
In the end, she decided on a simple, at-home program of healthy food along with controlling portion size. When her doctor allowed her to exercise again, she joined a gym for regular workouts. She also hired a personal trainer at a cost of $5,160 for a year of biweekly sessions.
Morrissey achieved her weight loss goal after 13 months of dieting and exercising.
“I’m a few pounds off of my goal weight but not much. I’ve been judging by what I fit back into and not the scale,” she said. “Your hips widen and your rib cage gets bigger. Your body isn’t the same even if you aren’t down to the weight you were before.”
She concludes by saying: “So if you’re ever feeling bad about yourself because you didn’t fit into a bikini a few weeks after you gave birth like Bethenny Frankel or Kourtney Kardashian, just know this: those bitches’ tits are fucked. Unless, of course, they get them fixed, surgically. Which they probably will/did.”
