“Growing Pains” star supports Akin Comments
Kirk Cameron, who as a teen starred in TV’s popular “Growing Pains” comedy series, made a recent appearance on CNN to defend embattled Missouri senatorial candidate Todd Akin over comments he made regarding “legitimate rape.”
Akin’s also insisted that a woman who was legimately raped was not able to conceive a child because her body automatically shuts down due to the trauma.
Cameron, who has stayed in the entertainment field to pursue projects that focus on his evangelical faith and beliefs and is now a husband and father himself, said he “respected” the fact that Akin’s comments proved that he was a pro-life candidate and that Cameron supports anyone who is pro-life and against abortion.
“I’m not his political strategist, thank God,” Cameron said. He told the hosts that he watched the video of Akin’s comments and came away with the understanding that “this is a man who is advocating the sanctity of life through and through. He said he misspoke, and he apologized for it. I like to evaluate people based on their entire life, their entire career, all they stand for.”
Cameron further explained his reasoning by saying that he hoped no one would judge his own career or Akin’s just by the comments made during one conversation, contending that Akin was simply misspeaking when he made his comments about rape.
