Throughout the 2012 Summer Olympics in London McDonald’s will open its biggest restaurant ever for the duration of the games. It’s booked to be 32,292 square feet, which is approximately half the length of a normal sized football field. The statistics get even more astonishing: 2,000 people will staff this individual McDonald’s and are expected to serve around 50,000 Big Macs.
McDonald’s is a top-tier sponsor this year at the Olympics, its ninth year in this position. This year, however, McDonald’s plans to enact health and environment inspired projects in their record breaking restaurant. The restaurant will be built entirely from recyclable materials and incorporate a large-scale campaign to promote more healthy children. The ‘healthy’ aspect of this McDonald’s is a direct response to criticisms of their sponsorship of the Olympics games.
