A California mother was charged with killing her 20 month old infant, after the baby was found dead in the swamps. Samantha Greene, 23, is charged with abuse and involuntary manslaughter. The baby had no signs of trauma when his body was recovered from the Sacramento River in California.

The charges against the mother were announced following her arrest for the death of her son, Justice Rees. Investigators believe the baby may have been exposed to cold weather, or perhaps drowned, near the town of Knights Landing.

The mother was reported missing and was found the next day covered in bruises and appearing disheveled. Greene told police she and her son had been abducted. However, authorities say they do not believe her story.

Despite the charges Greene faces, her family says they are standing by her side through this ordeal. The family made a statement saying, “Our family is grieving not only the loss of our grandson, Justice, but also the possible loss of our daughter, Sami Green.”

Greene and baby Justice were reported missing after the mother failed to arrive at her father’s house as planned. Various family members posted on Facebook reaching out to Samantha for her to come home.
